After the success of their debut location, we envisioned a more premium experience for Pause Studio’s second location on Sycamore Street for an artful set of patrons inclined to the pursuit of wellness. With a design theory rooted in biophilia, we looked to the natural world as an anchor. The thoughtful play of texture, light, and shadow set against a palette of water-inspired materials and finishes, creates a transporting escape.
In a nod to the sculptural work of Richard Serra, satin-finished curvilinear wood-slatted walls naturally guide visitors through the space. The LED lighting throughout creates dimension and flow. Roman clay plaster walls radiate a soft glow, layered with indigo-dyed artwork, hand-made ceramic sculptures and vases, and ambient wall sconces. The treatment rooms feature custom vanities, terracotta flooring, and zellige tile. Fundamental to the design concept is the bathing experience, where float pods are mirrored by a sculptural dome lightwell seemingly floating within the space. We considered every subtle touchpoint an invitation to turn inward and filter out the noise of the external world.
