Sands Hotel and Spa

Once a standard motel form comprised of disconnected blocks and cramped spaces, The Sands was ready for a modern update. Working through the architectural restoration phase with Martyn Bullard Design, we opened up the property by activating underutilized spaces, creating distinct enclaves for gathering and relaxing, and celebrating existing amenities with a decidedly more premium feel. A peaceful olive grove leads to the new spa building, where the grove can also double as an event space. The addition of a new restaurant building, complete with full commercial kitchen, effectively contained the interior courtyard by blocking the view beyond to make the pool area feel sumptuously private. Replacing a neglected putting green with a new wedding grove adjacent to the spa, the hotel can now offer an intimate place for events that adds to their revenue base. The lobby gained much-needed office space for staff administration and now looks out onto a garden fountain that brings the outside in.
