A Neighborhood Upgrade, For The Everyman and the Connoisseur Alike.
Friends of M+ and owners of Pharmacie, Chris and Talmadge came to us for a collaboration. While they are the brains behind the operation, we composed the physical concept for the space; an established convenience market with a broad spectrum of modest as well as high-end liquor. From affordable, quality Kentucky whiskeys to small-batch wines and seasonal cult beers, plus, a revolving selection of uniquely curated, heritage sundries, this was a space that needed defining.
With an entity full of contrasts and contradictions, we employed a European storefront with a slightly more bold and elevated design, and a very paired down, utilitarian interior to iterate HiLo’s literal purpose. Brass gilded sconce and mail slot details add classic layers, while hand-painted signage doles out a helping of earnest humility. Greeted by the tiled-in motto, “drink well,” guests immediately feel the shops pragmatic modernity, and airy, exposed white beams keep the space open and breathing. Ahh.
