Echo Park Triplex

Developed on a lot zoned for higher density, the original footprint of this Echo Park design contained a single family home set back from the street. To meet the ever-increasing housing need of this desirable locale, we conceived of a new modern duplex to fill the void at front while preserving the back house in its entirety. Taking into consideration the block’s residential heights and massing, we placed the 2-story units right on the street to make best use of the modest acreage.

In an area known for its hilly rises and steep inclines, we took advantage of the opportunity to harness the spectacular downtown views with rooftop decks atop each of the new units. To maintain a bit of privacy while avoiding a stark solid wall at street level, we applied a green façade that also serves to filter natural incoming light and views through its trellis and strategic plantings.
